In today’s COVID-19 report, the Health Ministry announced changes to the Paso a Paso (step-by-step) plan. Nine municipalities will be downgraded and 28 will be upgraded. Also, officials announced that 2,869,036 people have been vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 nationwide.

“The change in new cases nationwide is -2% over the last seven days and -8% over the last 14 days,” indicated Health Minister Enrique Paris during an update on the COVID-19 pandemic in Chile. “Ten regions have seen a drop in the number of cases over the last seven days and, similarly, 10 regions have seen a drop over the last fourteen days,” he explained.

The minister emphasized that “two days ago we surpassed 9 million PCR tests. To be more precise we have conducted 9,901,927 tests nationwide, which makes us the leaders in Latin America.” He specified that the testing rate is 465,700 per one million inhabitants, saying “practically one out of every two people in the country has been tested.”

On the international front, the Health Minister reported that this Monday a second shipment of oxygen will be sent from the city of Antofagasta to Peru. “The President of Peru has noted the donations and support from Chile due to the difficulties they are facing in terms of oxygen supply,” said Minister Paris who confirmed that Chile will continue to work closely with its neighbor.

Paso a Paso (step by step) recovery plan

As part of the report, Crime Prevention Undersecretary Katherine Martorell announced that as of Thursday, February 25 at 5:00 a.m., the following municipalities have been downgraded to Quarantine:  Huara in the Tarapacá Region; Linares in the Maule Region; Tirúa in the Biobío Region; and Cunco in La Araucanía Region.

The following municipalities have been downgraded to Transition: Melipilla in the Metropolitan Region; Illapel in the Coquimbo Region; Papudo in the Valparaíso Region; Yerbas Buenas in the Maule Region; Los Álamos in the Biobío Region; and Renaico in La Araucanía Region.

The following municipality has been downgraded to Preparation: Til Til in the Metropolitan Region.

As of Thursday, February 25 at 5:00 a.m., the following municipalities have been upgraded to Transition: Pozo Almonte in the Tarapacá Region; Chillán and Chillán Viejo in the Ñuble Region; Los Álamos and Cabrero in the Biobío Region; Cholchol in La Araucanía Region; and Calbuco in Los Lagos Region.

The following municipalities have been upgraded to Preparation: Lo Espejo in the Metropolitan Region; Mostazal, Paredones, Malloa and Requínoa in the O’Higgins Region; Romeral, Molina and Teno in the Maule Region; Mulchén, Negrete, San Rosendo and Santa Bárbara in the Biobío Region; Pitrufquén and Teodoro Schmidt in La Araucanía Region; and Cochamó and Puqueldón in Los Lagos Region.

The following municipalities have been upgraded to Initial Opening: Cochrane in the Aysén Region; and Torres del Paine, Cabo de Hornos, Laguna Blanca and San Gregorio in the Magallanes Region.

As of Thursday, February 25, the nationwide curfew will start at 11:00 p.m. and will end at 5:00 a.m. the following day.
