President Sebastián Piñera appointed this Tuesday new Ministers of the Interior, Foreign Affairs, Defense, Social Development, Minister Secretary General of the Presidency, Minister Secretary General of the Government,.
Víctor Pérez, who was serving as senator, was appointed Interior and Public Security Minister, in replacement of Gonzalo Blumel.
Senator Andrés Allamand took office as Foreign Affairs Minister, in replacement of Teodoro Ribera.
Cristián Monckeberg, who was Social Development Minister, took office as Minister Secretary General of the Presidency (Segpres), in replacement of Claudio Alvarado.
Jaime Bellolio, who was serving as deputy, was appointed as Minister Secretary General of the Government (Segegob).
Mario Desbordes, who was serving as deputy, took office as Defense Minister, in replacement of Alberto Espina.
Lastly, Karla Rubilar, who was Minister Secretary General of the Government, will now head the Ministry of Social Development and Family.
“We are going to embark on a new stage for our government and our country with a truly constructive spirit, with conviction, unity, faith and hope,” said the President, following the swearing-in ceremony for the new ministers in the Los Cañones Patio at La Moneda Palace.
“I am sure that only with the unity and collaboration of each and every man and woman in Chile will we be able to face these enormously difficult and adverse times, and return to the path of progress, liberty and justice,” said the President. He was accompanied on the occasion by First Lady Cecilia Morel, and all the members of his cabinet.
