The way in which we do business and export has changed. The national and international context that has kept in place a series of restrictions on foreign travel as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic has created the opportunity to innovate and find support on digital platforms.
ProChile has been no exception and through its virtual business matching forums has enabled Chilean exporters to find new markets without needing to travel. For example, after participating in virtual meetings with markets in Asia and Oceania in April and May, the company Super Frescos is now exporting to Mumbai in India.
Daniel Guzmán, CEO of Super Frescos, explains that they have already sent two containers of kiwis, their first direct shipments to India. “This type of meeting has been a really great experience. You get to know the client directly and negotiate with them, which makes things a lot easier. Actually, it was all really good,” highlights Guzmán.
This company has been working for two years with ProChile’s Metropolitan Regional Office, which has provided guidance on exporting to markets in the United States and Europe. Super Frescos has made itself known at international trade fairs during the last couple of years but had expected the current situation to disrupt any possibility of negotiating with new clients.
“Meeting face to face with the client is different but this global pandemic has complicated everything and while this situation endures, the support of ProChile and these virtual meetings generate confidence, both in the business owner and in the client, who at the end of the day is the one who is paying,” says Guzmán.
A total of 181 Chilean exporters participated in the virtual business matching forums with Asia and Oceania organized by ProChile. The forums resulted in 380 meetings with projected business worth more than US$16 million.
