The President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, in his capacity as Pro Tempore President of the Forum for the Progress of South America (Prosur), held a videoconference on Tuesday with the leaders of Prosur member countries and observers. The meeting addressed the challenges posed by the health pandemic, as well as the social and economic crisis.
The Heads of State agreed on the importance of coordinating their efforts to combat the coronavirus and reactivate the economies of the region, in order to promote employment and investment and prevent an increase in poverty. To this end, they agreed on establishing a working group at Finance Ministry level.
Furthermore, the leaders agreed on joining forces to move forward with repatriating citizens who remain stranded abroad on the reopening of borders, with all of the health precautions that are required and at the right time.
This is the third meeting that the presidents of the Prosur member countries have held since March in order to coordinate efforts to contain the coronavirus. They have established the coordination of information, border control, repatriation of people and promotion of joint purchases of medical supplies in order to secure better terms and conditions.
