Due to the rapid spread of Covid-19, Health Minister Jaime Mañalich has announced that a full quarantine will go into effect on Thursday, March 26 at 10 p.m. for the following seven districts in the Metropolitan Region: Lo Barnechea, Vitacura, Las Condes, Providencia, Ñuñoa, Santiago and Independencia. This is because these are the communities that have the largest number of cases. The quarantine will last for seven days, and is subject to extension.
“This means that 1,341,000 residents of the city of Santiago must remain in their homes for seven days beginning tomorrow at 10 p.m. Announcements will be made over the next few hours regarding the exceptions that will be allowed, which will include healthcare and emergencies,” Minister Mañalich stated. He added, “this is a strict quarantine and people must remain at home.”
A sanitary customs post will be set up at the main entry and exit points of the city of Santiago to conduct health checks and ensure compliance with the quarantine.
