The Ministry of Public Works program envisages investments for over US$20,000 million in 2018-2022, of which US$3,500 million were implemented in 2019.
The program includes a concession plan that expands into new sectors such as hospitals and, shortly, trains and prisons. It also has a strong focus on the regions since only 16% of the total is exclusive to the Santiago Metropolitan Region.
In 2020, 11 projects for a total of US$3,238 million will be tendered, involving the development of highways, hospitals and public infrastructure. The Minister of Public Works, Alfredo Moreno, explained that, in the current context in the country, a huge financial effort will be required to address the main demands of the social movement, calling for increased investment.
“Higher social spending means that, as a country, we must generate more income to finance it. A large investment will be needed to repair the damage and reactivate the economy after the crisis,” he said.
